As a volcano As a hat (worn by me)

I designed this model for the folding competition at the 2026 convention of the Polish Origami Association, whose topic was… headgear. Yes, it’s a volcano meant to be worn as a hat. This idea won the model the first place :) As a matter of fact, you can wear Volcano I or Volcano II as a hat just as well, but Volcano III was designed specifically with such use in mind. In particular, the base is elliptic rather than round to better match the shape of a human head. For a model that is to be just a volcano, you can add two extra mountain folds to make the base rounder.

I chose a multi-sheet design for simplicity rather than using a color-change. I needed a ca 50-60 cm square for the main massif to fit my head. The size of the lava flow and the smoke plume can of course be adjusted to taste since they are made from separate sheets. The smoke, being a crumpling design, doesn’t even have to be made from a square, or from any regular shape.
